I was beside myself when I heard that there was going to be another story in the Acquisition series because not only was the series my first foray into dark romance, but to this day still my favorite dark world, EVER. I am in love with the world, the atmosphere, the characters, the elegance, the strength, the darkness, the depravity... everything is just perfection personified.In Lucius and Evie’s story we once again are graced with the Vinemont’s, their world of business sugar cane moguls, ancient feuds, death threats, murder, violence, alpha men, and strong woman. This story is both a romance and a call to arms for some, shall we say, leftover threads from Sinclair and Stella’s story.Lucius is known to be the more impulsive and just as dark brother of the Vinemont’s and in this story he finds himself hunted, not the hunter and that only intrigues and intensifies his desires even more. Evie, well she has her own reasons for her actions (valid and strong) and these two light up the pages. Not only in heat and passion but in violence and revenge as well.I won’t give anything away; I will just say this is a nice complimentary story to the Acquisition series and a great story to get to know Lucius better.If you have read the books previous you will no doubt enjoy being back in this world and if you are new, well get ready for a ride!I am going to want Teddy’s story (please and thank you) and if I am honest, more little Teddy as he stole his scenes and melted my heart (and I don’t usually like kids, LOL).One more thing: I might be a bit depraved when I say that, but I would have liked Lucius to be a bit more psychopathic on page. And its only because I know he is beyond capable, and I will always want my Vinemont’s to show their true colors every time! Not that Lucius as a soft man by any means, not by a mile.Oh! And in comparison, to the blackness of The Acquisition Series (for me at least), Lucius and this story was more of a mid to dark gray.Enjoy! I know I did and will again, and again, and again… 4.75 stars. I was immediately enveloped in the story, and there was mystery and surprises from beginning to end. The enemies to lovers slow burn intensity and tension between Lucius and Evie was electric; it crackled on and off the page! Evie was a strong woman: “You’re not damaged. Your past is why you’re strong.” She didn’t like to be vulnerable, but when she was my heart ached for her. Lucius was lusciously dark and twisted, and I loved him immediately and never stopped. Can a “monster” make you swoon? Yes. Yes, he can! I was emotionally engaged with this book; I had chuckled throughout, got frustrated, swooned, at the apex of the action I had tears in my eyes, then ended with a smile. This author crafted the perfect enemies to lovers book and anti-hero in Lucius, and I highly recommend this book as it will be going on my Top Reads of 2021 list!
